Goals
And Priorities
Every organizations needs to list its goals and to prioritize them. This page of the ca23rd website is to summarize our priorities and list the top items.
As the originator of the origination and the first editor of this site I have created the first version. It is very much subject to change, but must start somewhere. This list is ordered with a bit a pragmatism. The top items are those that have a combination of importance and possible success. But importance takes some precedence over probability of success.
1. Constitutional amendment to reverse the Citizens United Supreme Court Decision.
a. The importance of this overrides the pragmatism. This site’s web page on Constitutional Amendments explains in more detail.
b. We must get big business out of politics.
c. Citizens United allows corporations to donate and conduct political campaigns. Who owns those businesses? Who controls them? There is nothing in that Supreme Court decision that provides to discover who are the owners and controller. They may well include foreign business and even governments.
d. Please see this page devoted to Citizens United: https://ca23rd.org/amendments/citizens_united.htm
2. Elect a new Congressional Representative to the CA 23rd district: Discussions about our current Representative can go on for quite a long time.
3. Election Security
a. We know that Russia meddled in our election.
b. We, meaning the author of this list writing for this club, suspect that if Russia had not meddled, and if Director Comey had not made that last minute announcement about H. Clinton emails, there is a distinct possibility that the election would have gone the other way.
c. We do know, this writing, that Senate Majority McConnell will not allow a vote on any election reform bill. A logical conclusion is that since they directly benefited from Moscow’s meddling in the election, they prefer that behavior to continue.
g. The reader can easily find more.
4. Women’s Rights: We must trust women to make their own medical decisions. We need to get the government out of the doctor’s office. Provide free birth control to every woman that asks. If a male contraceptive becomes available provide it to those that ask.
5. Education: Every person should be able to have tuition paid vocational school or undergraduate college at state and community colleges. Those that stand to lose jobs due to technology advances get priority.
6. Climate Change: Humans are, and already have, changed the climate of the entire earth. We must take action now.
1. Create district wide political organization
a. Find volunteers that will contact residents in their local area
b. Ensure that all the eligible voters are registered
c. Ensure that they are aware of the election schedule for the 2020 elections
d. Ensure that they are aware of early voting by mail
