Roe-v-Wade Federal Legislation

This is one person’s response to the almost certainty that Roe-v-Wade will be overturned.  Before starting, be aware there is a huge gotcha at the end.

Here are the concepts that should be put into federal legislation.  This is regardless of the latest SCOTUS ruling on the concept of abortion.

Any state, and/or any level of government, that prohibits an abortion shall:

Pay all maternity expenses.  This goes to the woman’s selected physician, not a government chosen physician.  This includes transportation expenses to and from all medical care.  It includes all birthing expenses, and all post birth expenses.

Provide the woman with compensation for all lost work time.

Provide the woman’s employer with compensation for the loss of that woman’s labor contributions.

Provide an $1 million life policy in the event she does not survive or suffers some debilitating medical problem associated to the pregnancy.  This amount shall be COLA adjusted beginning as of year 2020.

Provide the family with the expenses necessary to raise a child to age 18.  From this site:

The cost stated is $233,610.  That cost shall be increased by COLA every year beginning 2020.  This can be adjusted for each state but must be approved by a federal legislative committee.

Provide the parent(s) with government paid child care.

Provide the parent with free medical care for the child through age 18.

If the child is born with a defect, provide the child with the necessary aid through the lifetime of the child.

Provide the child with pre-paid four-year education at a state university.  That shall include room, board, tuition, all book expenses, plus some funds to cover daily living expenses.

Provide psychological counseling for this child whose parents did not want them but were forced to continue the pregnancy.  The parent or child is allowed to select the counselor, not the government.

Now for the big gocha:  The governor, or any official representing some state, may complain to Congress that “Ms. Roe” is falsely claiming she wants an abortion just to avail herself of all the noted benefits.  The Congressional response might take the form:

“Ok, so call her bluff and give her the abortion. (grin and chuckle)  This is a problem that YOU, the state, have created. You figure it out.”
