An Open Letter To Congressman Chip Roy

Sir,

I heard of your recent comment yesterday, was concerned, and had occasion to think of it again this morning. For reference, it was found:

  • Here

    Quoting from the article:

“It’s the lawyers advising him,” Roy tweeted, evidently referring to the Supreme Court Justices. “[Trump] should ignore them. Completely. Print the Census with the questions — and issue a statement explaining why — ‘because we should.’ Done.”

I now elect use a particular word, noting that according to our law the use is not 100% accurate (U.S Constitution, Article 3, Section 3), but the concept is applicable.

Your advice to the President of the United States, is to ignore the Supreme Court, the established final arbitrator of what is legal and what is not, established by our Constitution. This was and is a public statement and call to action.

Your statement is an act of treason.

Please pause for a bit and let that sink in.

The current President of the United States has saved his most sincere statements of respect for dictators of other nations. Three specifics include Vladimir Putin of Russia, Xi Jinping of China, and Kim Jon-un of North Korea. He has referred to them as strong leaders. He explicitly stated that he wants his people to give him the same respect accorded to Kim Jon-un, the man that has had people executed with anti-aircraft guns.

    Because Kim Jon-un said so!

This president wants that kind of respect. He wants that kind of power. He has said so himself.

Much more can and should be said, but I will leave it at that and again ask you to pause and consider, what do those two previous paragraphs mean. That the President of the United States makes these kinds of statement, and behaves in that manner, is incredibly worrisome.

And now, you have encouraged him to ignore the Supreme Court of the United States.

I strongly suspect and believe that the President of the United States has never sat down and read the Constitution of the United State. (In my opinion he is a functional illiterate but that is another story.)

As you have encouraged said behavior, I wonder: Have you ever taken the time to read the Constitution?

If you have read it, do you understand it? Do you really understand it? Do you have any idea of how important it is? Do you understand that this nation is what it is, and has become the most prosperous nation in the world today, and relative to all other nations in history the greatest in history, because of that Constitution? Do you understand that everything you have done in your life, everything you might have done, has been enabled by that Constitution?

In short, No!, you do not have that understanding.

    Your statement is clear evidence.

And in the context of the current Presidency, the last three years of this nation, and much public sentiment, and reflecting on what an elected member of Congress has PUBLICLY stated (that would be you Congressmen Roy), …, and on this Fourth of July, 2019, …,

I am deeply scared and afraid for our future.
